Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world. Here, you belong to an extraordinary collective, across 140 countries, in which we encourage individuality to thrive.

Arup’s presence in the United States began in 1985 in San Francisco. Since then, we’ve expanded to 12 offices around the US with 2,000 members working in over 70 disciplines across dozens of industries and markets.

A few of our notable projects in the US include the Seattle Convention Center Summit building bringing new life into the heart of the city, in California the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge, and in the South, the Houston Endowment Headquarters. In the East, the beautiful Little Island in New York, and 80 M Street SE in Washington DC.

We are owned in trust by our members, a structure that enables us the freedom to set our own direction and opportunities – independently. We choose work that aligns with our values, working with clients on ambitious projects that will set new standards.

The freedom we have here combined with the personal responsibility to add to Arup’s legacy, means we explore challenges with curiosity and creativity – using imagination, technology and rigor to deliver remarkable outcomes. Our strength comes from how we respect, share, and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. Our offices are set apart from competitors through our focus on community engagement, an endless curiosity to learn, and Equality, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI) initiatives. Our EDI strategy aims to foster a sense of belonging and encourage our extraordinary collective to produce their best work for the benefit of our clients and the communities we live in.

The offices themselves are incubators for workplace design. Many of our offices have implemented circadian lighting design for increased comfort, while the Boston office was the first-ever WELL certified project in New England. Five offices in the US feature SoundLabs, which allow our engineers and consultants to hear how a space will sound as they design it. Each office has a flexible, open-floor layout with several breakout spaces to promote curiosity, creativity, and collaboration among all disciplines and career levels.

We’re a thriving and growing organization which offers movement between offices, countries, and regions to all our members as we strive to deliver locally focused, globally connected, and innovative projects that shape a better world. Working in the US gives our members an opportunity to touch a broad range of impactful projects and encourages the development of technical, project management, and business development skills needed to be successful in your career.

Meet our people

Matthew Boutte

I think I chose Arup because of those great experiences I mentioned, as well as the people I worked with in the office! I love the fact that even though I'm in Acoustics, I'm often interacting with people in different disciplines across projects.

Patty Midy

Several of my values overlap with Arup’s, and that is a big reason why I joined the firm. It’s important for me to leave a positive impact in my work and at Arup we are constantly considering how we can improve ourselves, our work and its impact.

James Olson

I joined Arup straight from university. I’ve had the opportunity to work on a variety of different project types including tall buildings, long-span space frame roofs and large-scale airport designs.
