Our masterplanning consulting services will assist in the urban renewal of the city’s riverbanks.

The riverside revitalisation project, called Beira Foz, located in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, will focus on the 21km between the Itaipu power plant, in the Paraná River, and the Iguaçu National Park. Arup is working in partnership with Usina Hidroelétrica Itaipu Binacional, the second biggest hydroelectric power station in the world, and with the Tourism Department of Foz do Iguaçu, on the development of an integrated urban strategy for the riverside area of the city. The masterplan will include the creation of new public squares and parks.

"The work will analyse the general masterplan, including urban mobility, infrastructure needs, open air places, urban design, and key pilot-projects. Foz do Iguaçu wants to become the first Brazilian town with a new integrated sustainable platform for tourists."

-Pablo Lazo, Project Manager and Associate Director at Arup

The project will also ensure more security at the border areas shared with Paraguay and Argentina, as well as removing the shantytowns from irregularly occupied areas, relocating around 2,000 families who will receive housing in others regions of the city.
