Basildon Cardiothoracic Centre is a new-build hospital that provides specialist diagnostics and treatment for people with cardiovascular (heart) and respiratory diseases.
The building uses the latest equipment and technology throughout, including state-of-the-art operating theatres and cardiac catheter laboratories. The £60m, 15,000m² facility is situated on a greenfield site on the existing hospital campus.
Arup provided a range of services on the project, including mechanical, electrical, public health, civil and structural engineering, vertical transportation design, security and fire engineering.
The project was completed on time and on budget using the NHS ProCure21 procurement framework – Arup partnering with BAM to deliver the hospital in a total of 2.5 years from inception to completion.
Basildon Cardiothoracic Centre has since won two Building Better Healthcare awards and has been highly praised by the client for exceeding their requirements and expectations.
