39 Hunter Street achieves 6 Star Green Star rating

14 March 2011

The Green Building Council of Australia recently announced 39 Hunter Street in Sydney has been awarded a 6 Star Green Star – Office As-Built v2 Certified Rating, representing world leadership in environmentally sustainable construction.

By recognising and rewarding environmental leadership within the built environment, Green Star aims to assist the building industry in its transition to sustainable development. Only six projects have achieved a 6 star As-Built rating and 39 Hunter Street is the first heritage-listed building in Australia to achieve 6 Star Green Star rating using the version 2 Office Design Tool.

The 90-year-old heritage listed building underwent an extensive redevelopment and refurbishment to meet high sustainable building design standards, including the introduction of innovative cooling technology and a new centralised atrium to enhance daylight penetration.

Since Green Star was introduced in 2003, over 300 projects have been certified and more than 500 projects are registered to be assessed under a growing range of Green Star rating tools.

Our work on 39 Hunter Street included mechanical, electrical and public health engineering, sustainable building design, vertical transport, acoustics and fire engineering.

In 2010 the project also won the Building and Structures category at the 2010 NSW Engineering Excellence Awards.
