Last Thursday we celebrated 20 years of Arup in Spain with an event held at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid.
150 guests attended, including Arup staff, Spanish authorities and international clients who were treated to a guided tour of the Thyssen permanent collection followed by a cocktail reception.
Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum was one of the first projects carried out by the Madrid office. During the event, participants discussed the challenge of transforming the former palace into a museum.
20 years ago, we arrived on the Spanish market to deliver engineering and consultancy services under an holistic approach to a wide range of projects. This includes mega structures like Metropol Parasol and Expo Zaragoza Bridge to Valencia Football club´s new five-star UEFA and a holistic masterplan for a 60ha area of Santander´s coast line. Our portfolio also includes delivery of projects in the rest of Europe, Middle East, and Latinamerica.
“Few of us would have imagined that 20 years after we opened a small office in Madrid we would be looking back on our contributions to some of the most innovative and influential projects that have been realized in Spain over that period. We are tremendously proud of the achievements of our colleagues in Spain over these 20 years and are confident that they will go on to achieve more great things in the next 20. Gregory Hodkinson, Arup Group Board
The event also helped to highlight Madrid´s office presence in Spain and overseas, enhancing our reputation for innovative and collaborative design, creating a strong springboard for the future.
