HRH the Prince of Wales officially opened the Sir Stanley Clarke Auditorium at the University of Swansea, UK

This imposing building sits in heart of the University’s new Bay Campus and provides a brand new multipurpose venue that can comfortably hold up to 700 people. The new multi-purpose auditorium is a fitting expression of the University’s creative and cultural ambitions.

The Great Hall is at the heart of our new campus and is a central hub for students, staff and visitors, to come together to celebrate not just science and innovation but also culture and arts in a truly magnificent auditorium. ” Professor Iwan Davies Senior Pro Vice Chancellor, Swansea University

Arup was engaged directly by the University to develop the acoustic, building services and venue design. By working in close collaboration with Powell Dobson Architects, developers St. Modwen and contractor Mac Interiors, the performance and operational capabilities of the existing building shell were maximised. The resulting building is a highly flexible space reconfigurable and technologically equipped for a wide range of events.

The room’s flexible acoustics and technical systems are designed to support everything from chamber orchestras and choral performances with the new classical organ, through contemporary music, lectures, conferences, awards and graduation ceremonies, exams and banqueting.

Arup is committed to delivering excellent spaces that delight users and inspire creativity. We are very proud of our work with Swansea University. The Sir Stanley Clarke Auditorium is another fine example of our ability to create great spaces for performance and congregation. ” Ian Knowles Ian Knowles Director
