As Arup’s Global Energy Leader, I have the responsibility for drawing together our broad range of capability around the world and positioning their skills and experience in support of all our clients, wherever they may be. I oversee, enable, link and transfer our various energy activities to ensure that we remain at the leading edge in our fields of activity, weaving together pragmatic outcomes which are technically, commercially and societally deliverable.

As we transition towards a sustainable, equitable and low carbon future I place great emphasis on the journey or pathway which will deliver desired results, seeing this as a critical component of unlocking the ultimate outcomes. An emphasis on excellence in real world delivery is something which I instinctively seek, perhaps based on the lessons learnt from direct EPC delivery experience of major energy assets throughout my career.

Increasingly I see both opportunity and risk reduction derived from an integrated system perspective across a multiple energy vectors in combination with sector coupling into mobility, ICT, water and the city context. Linking together and optimising these systems using a data rich system integration approach, while also keeping a close eye on transitional and future resilience makes these nexus with energy an exciting place to collaboratively work with clients and colleagues alike.

I am a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers in London, Industrial Co-chair of the Energy Research Partnership (ERP) and Advisory Group Member of the Prospering from the Energy Revolution programme. I am a frequent speaker and panellist at industry events, including various World Energy Council events.
