James Conway

Associate Principal, Americas South Cities Planning & Design Leader

James Conway is an Associate Principal and the Americas South Cities Planning & Design Leader based in Arup’s Austin office. Having joined Arup in 2008, he is an urban planner and landscape designer with experience on projects that have spanned both the public and private sectors across the United States, United Kingdom, Middle East, and Asia. With the skillsets of both a lead designer and project manager, James applies a unique and collaborative approach to project delivery in order to drive decision making and fully engage clients, team members, and stakeholders. 

In the built environment, his focus is to create dynamic, flexible, and resilient places that are user-focused and respond innovatively to current and future design requirements. James’s exemplary abilities are demonstrated in the United 2026 FIFA World Cup bid, where he helped to assemble the winning bid for an event to be hosted across North America. James assisted the bid team with all host city related input including city selection, public realm studies, environmental review, and sustainable event management, as well as review of airports, mass transit systems, telecommunication infrastructure, and location of FIFA Fan Fest events. His additional expertise extends to city scale master planning, climate responsive design, environmental restoration, habitat creation, infrastructure projects, and land reclamation.
