Martin Howell

Associate Principal

I joined Arup as a Mechanical Engineer in the UK and spent four years in the High Specification Facilities group, specializing in projects with extensive services infrastructure requirements and applying low energy principles to these traditionally high-energy use buildings.

Since relocating to the US in 2001, I have pursued my interest in sustainable and low energy design, gaining LEED accreditation in 2002 and combining both mechanical engineering and sustainability roles. I have extensive project experience including commercial, industrial, refurbishment and new build schemes, and responsibilities involve sustainability and energy planning, implementation of sustainability rating systems such as LEED, mechanical engineering design and project management.

I have also lectured on mechanical engineering, sustainability, LEED® and biomimicry at UCLA, SCIARC, ASHRAE and the USGBC Greenbuild National Conference.
