Nigel Tonks is a Director and the Sustainable Development Lead for the UK, India, Middle East and Africa at Arup. With 35 years’ experience as a consulting engineer focusing on sustainable building design, he is a passionate advocate for transforming the built environment towards a decarbonised, resilient, healthy, and equitable future.

Nigel works to promote the radical collaboration necessary to achieve climate action, and is the global sponsor for Zero, Arup’s Whole Life Carbon Program – which has generated life cycle carbon data for 1800 projects in over 30 countries.

Outside of Arup, Nigel is a senior advisor to the Climate Champions Team, a member of the Building to COP Coalition, and a member of the World Green Building Council Advisory Board, forging global campaigns with non-state actors in the Race to Zero and the Race to Resilience.
