ARUP Journal Issue 1 2018

The Arup Journal 2018 Issue 1

The latest issue of The Arup Journal has been published, celebrating the quality, technical excellence and innovative ideas at the heart of every project we undertake in Arup.

In this edition, find out how our firm has modernised and future-proofed the sewerage system in Hong Kong through the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme and helped to transform an abandoned grain silo complex into an impressive cultural hub at the V&A Grain Silo Complex in Cape Town, South Africa.

This issue also takes an in-depth look at how we worked collaboratively to bring six of the UK’s top scientific institutes together under one roof at the Francis Crick Institute in London, and what made the Downtown Line one of the most technically challenging underground projects ever undertaken in Singapore.

It also explores the future of design, including the ways in which we pushed the boundaries of 3D printing to build the EU’s first 3D-printed concrete house in Milan, Italy, and the sustainable vision behind Cornell Tech’s Bloomberg Center in New York - a building with the aspiration of net-zero energy use.
