Arup developed a new urban and edgy experience for Houston’s theatre district

Arup led a team of consultants to develop the 2025 vision for Houston’s 17-block theatre district. The project integrates our planning, urban design, theatre, and lighting consulting services to create a multiphase implementation plan for enhancing the district’s identity as a world-class theatre complex. The masterplan also establishes distinct branding and design standards for signage, lighting, and landscaping.

The masterplan specifically identifies short-term projects ranging from wayfinding and programming to create inviting and active spaces, as well as long-term transformations including redesigning plazas and streetscapes and redeveloping underutilized street blocks. The team engaged Houston First Board Members, local businesses, political leadership, and executives of the performing arts organizations through visioning workshops led by Arup.

Our total scope also included transportation planning, acoustic and audiovisual consulting, as well as advanced technology and research.
