Queens Hall Trinidad, Port of Spain

Flagship Caribbean performing arts venue

Fifty years after it opened, Arup were asked to recommend improvements to this 1959 building.

Arup’s acousticians and venue consultants were appointed with architects Gillespie and Steel to renovate the auditorium and improve technical facilities.

The auditorium was enclosed to improve sound isolation from external noise, a low-noise ventilation system was added and the seating layout was reconfigured to improve sightlines.

The stage area was made more flexible by building a forestage elevator, which can serve as an orchestra pit or as an extension to the stage. The height above the stage was increased to include a fly tower with counterweight hoists.

Occupying a picturesque three-acre site in Port of Spain, Queen’s Hall hosts a wide range of entertainment including theatre, dance and music events. Corporate events are supported by a comprehensive catering operation.
