The striking and unique lighting design creates a point of difference to this retail experience

The character of the store was to be one of a dynamic art installation where the clothing was displayed alongside local artists work. Both were to change with the seasons. The design of the lighting focused on how the clothing display and the lit reference art installations could be re-appropriated to suit the needs of the retail outlet.

Longevity and ease of maintenance were paramount, therefore the love affair with tungsten halogen had to end. In its place were LED, fluorescent lights for the ambient effects and metal halide for the accent lighting of the clothing. The selection of light sources and luminaires was based on the ease of integration within the original art concept.

In the main store area this resulted in a subtly integrated warm white LED strip within the gloss black floor treatment, and small ceramic metal halide luminaires mounted within a continuous fluorescent cove to reduce apparent glare.

The change rooms were to be lit in the same way as the shop fronts, creating a distinct connection between the display and the look of the clothing on the customer. Narrow beam projector sources were used within suspended can downlights. These then float within the darkness of the painted ceiling services.

The store aims to shock the visitor of the initial World Square outlet with its overt contrast with the surrounding retail fit-outs. This has been achieved with the bold interior design and accentuating lighting design. The experience within the store is one or a high end boutique, within an affordable cost bracket.
