A stylish tall building added to the city’s skyline

Strategically located at the Kuala Lumpur golden triangle, Vipod Suites is a striking building with the appearance of interlocking pods. The 41-storey, 418-unit apartment building is distinct for its flat, thin cantilever floors made possible by Arup’s engineering skills.

We delivered multidisciplinary engineering services for this unusual 41-storey tower with three basement levels as well as a sky pool, sky gym and sky bar at the rooftop.

Turning aesthetic vision into reality

Vipod Suites is a reinforced concrete structure with diaphragm walls for the basement and bored pile foundations. Its unique design feature is the ‘hanging’ cantilever floors achieved by adopting a specially planned structural scheme. This design feature, without resort to prestressing, has resulted in a thin plate exposed cantilever structure not achievable by a normal design approach.

Our innovation added to the building’s aesthetics and saved construction time. A distinctive feature in the construction was the use of a single upstanding designed bored pile for tower crane support.

As the building footprint was relatively small, this approach freed up space in the basement and allowed the tower crane to be mobilised early during excavation to remove spoil. Thus, we managed to shorten basement excavation time and shorten the overall construction.
