Houston is a modern, diverse city, the fourth-largest in the US, with broad-based industries, an advanced technical workforce, and a vibrant, proud culture. Arup has been active in the Texas market since the late 1980s providing professional engineering services on a wide variety of projects in the energy, transportation, and buildings sectors.
The Houston energy team has an ever-growing range of energy-related projects and services, including project management, due diligence, consultancy and engineering design of oil, natural gas, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure. Our solutions for oil, gas, and LNG are often for projects in challenging onshore and offshore environments. Our energy specialists provide strategies for energy efficiency, resource management, and renewable power generation. Significant energy project achievements include Sempra’s Energía Costa Azul LNG Receival Terminal, Husky’s White Rose Extension Project Concrete Gravity Substructure, and the Malampaya MP3 depletion compression platform using Arup’s ACE Platform technology.
The Houston transportation team has delivered railway engineering services for a variety of rail technologies, including light rail, metro, heavy haul freight, and high speed rail. Our clients include local and international operators and financiers, with a focus on North and South America. We have completed a number of projects for Houston METRO, and are currently serving as the Owner’s Engineer for Texas Central High Speed Railway.
Our buildings team has a long history of projects in Houston, including the Menil Collection Main Building in Houston, the School of Nursing and Student Community Center at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, the Nasher Sculpture Center Garden in Dallas, the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin, renovation projects at both the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, and a combined heat and power plant project at Texas State University San Marcos.
More recently, Houston’s building design team has become very active in multiple markets, including healthcare, science and industry, urban planning, arts and culture, hospitality, and aviation projects. Recent projects include the Uptown District Mobility Improvement in Houston, Houston Theatre District Masterplan, and H-E-B Stores in Austin and Houston.
