Showcasing contemporary art
The Voorlinden Museum is a striking example of how art, architecture, and engineering can seamlessly work together. Designed to showcase Joop van Caldenborgh’s private collection of contemporary art, the museum pushes boundaries in terms of sustainable design, functionality, and visitor experience. The innovative integration of natural light, acoustics, and climate control demonstrates how thoughtful engineering can enhance both the preservation of art and the enjoyment of it.
The art of daylight
At the core of this project is the mastery of daylight integration. Natural light flows into the museum indirectly, preserving the art collection while bringing a sense of openness and connection to the outside world. The careful modulation of this light ensures that the artwork is always viewed under the best conditions, even at night or on cloudy days, thanks to the combination of the transparent glass roof and LED lighting.
A harmonious visitor experience
We also ensured the atmosphere within the museum complemented the art, both in acoustics and environmental comfort. The duct work and ventilation systems are discreetly hidden to preserve the clean lines of the architecture, while the acoustic design ensures a serene environment. This creates a harmonious space where visitors can enjoy the art without distraction, offering a peaceful setting for reflection and inspiration.
