Improving transport in Kocaeli

Gebze Darıca Metro line is 15.6km driverless railway that connects Gebze and Darıca cities to Istanbul and Ankara at TCDD station, which is an interchange station with Marmaray railway route and High-Speed Railway line. One of its aims is to connect Turkey’s largest industrial zones to the railway system. The line consists of 12 stations. The metro line has been determined within the framework of the Kocaeli Metropolitan Area Integrated Urban Transportation Plan.

Arup was responsible for full multidisciplinary metro design including alignment, determining the locations of the stations and the operating scenarios, multidisciplinary design of the line and stations and depot facilities, preparing the tender documentation with the Financial and Economic Feasibility Studies.

Arup previously completed the feasibility and preliminary engineering study on a light rail transit system for the city and a masterplan study on an interchange station.
