IBM Istanbul Office, Istanbul

An example of quality in interior design among the Global IBM offices.

In compliance with International IBM e-place strategy, IBM Türk Ltd. Şti. has requested the redesign of the interior of their headquarters in Istanbul interior design.

`e-place´ is IBM’s space strategy that promotes communication, collaboration and productivity in the workplace. The key principles behind the `e-place philosophy’ are to provide workplace solutions that shift from a cellular to an open landscape, supporting open business in open and flexible spaces, whilst reducing desk and office footprints. This redesign will also maximise Real Estate asset value and provide space for `teams´ with access to central resources and shared facilities.

The main goal is to promote teamwork, interaction, and new ways of working to enhance ‘Employee Work-life Balance´.

Arup has provided project management services, and engineering advice to the client for the selection of an architect for the refurbishment of  this 7,755 m² office space, as well as mechanical and electrical design services, for the design and execution phases of their headquarters.

Technical aspects

This refurbishment has increased the floor space efficiency by partially implementing a shared desk system and redesigning the data cabling and A/C systems in order to cope with the increased loads on each floor.

It has also reduced space requirement by two floors without reducing comfort and efficiency.

Finally, the diverted data centre´s excess chiller capacity toprovide simultaneous heating and cooling.
