This proposed UK renewable energy plant will produce around 150MW of electricity from biomass, sufficient to power around 225,000 homes.
CO2 emissions will be reduced by at least 400,000t annually, equivalent to taking around 100,000 cars off Britain’s roads.
Arup worked with the client’s team in their own offices, providing a variety of engineering, site layout, procurement and geotechnics advice.
Sustainability consulting
The firm also provided sustainability consulting for the project, conducting a pre-construction BREEAM assessment. An Arup carbon-footprinting study helped to identify potential emissions hotspots in the fuel supply chain.
Arup is continuing to work with E.ON to develop their approach to carbon footprinting of biomass power stations.
Tender documents
Arup put together some of the key documents to allow the project to be tendered, including the Code of Construction Practice, Project Execution Plan and CAD manual.
To ensure the assessment could be met, a straightforward, clear schedule was written to allot credits to the various design and build contractors that were to undertake the work.
