The Arup-led Admiralty Station extension project is awarded with two prestigious honours at the Annual Awards of Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) and the Association of Consulting Engineers of Hong Kong (ACEHK), showcasing our commitment to bring the best total design solution for our clients.
Located in the heart of Hong Kong, the Admiralty Station extension connects four existing railway lines, becoming the largest interchange in the MTR network. As the lead consultant of this exceptionally challenging project, Arup advised on railway engineering and project management, architectural and station planning, civil, structural, geotechnical, building services, traffic, fire engineering and other specialist services.
HKIA Award of Hong Kong – Industrial / Infrastructural building category
Our design realised a stunning skylight above the 30m tall atrium, which not only draws natural light from the street level to the underground space, but also creates the main spine for passengers moving between the various lines and to the hinterlands. It enhances passengers’ comfort, experience and wellbeing, as well as introducing an efficient vertical passenger circulation via 34 new escalators, being the key to support the mega capacity that Admiralty Station handles.
Annual Award – ACEHK Annual Awards 2023
One of the major challenges was the underpinning of the existing Island Line finger platform structural box where also houses the ventilation plant. We adopted an innovative underpinning approach which allowed the construction team to excavate a depth of 23m and build three more platform levels underneath the existing station structure without affecting the normal services of the Island Line.
The HKIA Annual Awards is one of the most prestigious architectural awards in the region. It aims to foster an appreciation for buildings which have been designed by members of HKIA and have achieved architectural excellence that deserves professional acknowledgement and public awareness.
ACEHK Annual Awards aims to promote awareness and enhance presence of the engineering industry, showcasing and giving due recognition to truly excellent projects, also the practices and management of successful projects.
