Shaping carbon neutral cities whitepaper

Climate change has led to a huge increase in natural disasters and extreme weather events. United actions are required to combat this global challenge while sustaining growth with novel solutions and technologies.

With China aiming for ‘carbon peaking by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060’, the path to carbon neutrality will drive a new round of economic development in the country.

Arup has made a commitment to contribute meaningfully to the UN Sustainable Development Goals,  minimising environmental impacts and maximising the economic and social benefits of natural resources. Leveraging our expertise, diversity of thinking and independence, we are exploring a safe, sustainable and resilient future for all.

Arup’s Shaping carbon neutral cities whitepaper focuses on the opportunities and challenges in urban development. With a wealth of case studies, the publication shares Arup's global practice in related fields and takes a close look at the needs and roles of various industries in urban development. The whitepaper was produced to help drive China’s carbon neutrality process and it covers a wide range of topics including urban planning, municipal infrastructure, transport networks and facilities, delivery and maintenance of buildings and assets, digital technology and applications, corporate strategy and investment, and urban climate resilience.
