Valladolid Este Masterplan, Valladolid

Creation of an ecological city of 13,000 homes.

The Valladolid Este (Ve) project is located in Valladolid, Spain, around 5km from the city centre. The Esgueva River passes through the 460ha site, forming part of the Duero Canal meanders.

The project aims to create an ecological city of around 13,000 homes. The development also includes a shopping and commercial area, institutional buildings, a tourism and leisure area, and a large municipal park.

Arup’s masterplan respects and makes the most of the topographical, hydrological and natural features. The entire design is based on a strategy of efficient and economic use of natural resources.

Sustainability measures are expected to achieve a 35% reduction in CO2 emissions. 15% of all energy comes from renewable energy sources, and water demand in homes is reduced by nearly 50%.

A mobility and transport strategy creates an efficient and high-quality public transport network.
