Arup engineers win at IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year Award

Two young Arup engineers Samantha Kong and Melody Wong were awarded Winner and Merit Award at the IET Hong Kong Young Woman Engineer (YWE) of the Year Award 2020.

A senior engineer and sustainability professional, Samantha has a strong passion in environmental engineering and is keen to make a difference to the community through environmental education. Prior to joining Arup, she worked at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and was involved in the drafting of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). She is now serving in a number of advisory panels for government boards and committees, advising strategies in environmental conservation, sustainable development and promoting youth development in Hong Kong. She was also recognised as one of the 30 top young change-makers in environmental education in 2018 by the North America Association for Environmental Education.

A sustainability consultant, Melody is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion. An active member in serving the engineering profession, she has been organising various activities to promote gender equality and women in engineering. Currently she is the Chair of the Young Professional Network of Energy Institute (Hong Kong Branch) and External Affairs Coordinator of IET Hong Kong Younger Members Section.

As the first female engineer award in Hong Kong, the YWE Award recognises outstanding young women engineers who have made valuable contributions to the society through their engineering achievements and inspirations to the younger generations.
