Perth-based civil and construction engineer Verity Williams has been honoured with the Young Professionals Award from Roads Australia for demonstrating ‘promise, passion and pursuit’.

Verity is a member of Arup’s highways team, working on the Great Northern Highway (GNH) Upgrade Muchea to Wubin Stage 2. She is the Lead Project Support Engineer for the Walebing and Wubin Package and is managing tenders, budget and forecasting, technical deviations and approvals and has facilitated trials of road safety initiatives across all the GNH packages.

I’m grateful to work as part of a dynamic team both within my project, and more widely in Arup to consistently deliver smart and high-quality design outcomes that promote the safety and amenity of all road users. ”

Earlier in her career, Verity was the recipient of both the Curtin Engineering Excellence and Main Roads WA scholarships. While in her first role at Main Roads WA, she studied for her Graduate Diploma of Management from the Australian Institute of Management.

“I really enjoy supporting younger students to discover their own strengths and success by mentoring first year engineering students at Curtin University and as Student Ambassador,” she said.

“I am passionate about experiencing life through the perspective of ‘engineering for better’ and have a keen interest in all kinds of problem-solving.”

The team in Perth is incredibly proud of Verity for winning this award. Everything she has achieved in her career to date comes down to her passion for engineering and drive to deliver to the highest level. I have no doubt she will be a fantastic ambassador for Roads Australia and Arup over the next year. ”
