A new exhibition showcasing the development of sustainable kindergarten schools in Ghana is on display at Arup’s offices on 8 Fitzroy Street, London.
‘Building Brighter Futures’ documents the award-winning six year collaboration between the Sabre Charitable Trust and Arup to design and build ground-breaking new kindergarten schools.
Arup created a child-centred, sustainable and replicable model school for the Sabre Charitable Trust and together the two organisations have demonstrated that the school’s design can be effectively replicated across the region - helping to enhance kindergarten education in Ghana.
The exhibition captures the positive impact this project has had on the local people and environment in rural Ghana. Visitors can view the design and build process through a series of striking images from photographer Jack Brockway; as well as anecdotes, site sketches and samples of bamboo, soil and coconut husk that are examples of the locally sourced sustainable building materials.
A tactile classroom exhibit showcases the active and play-based approach to learning that the school design effectively promotes, which has resulted in the completed schools being used by the Sabre Charitable Trust as Centres of Excellence to deliver Transformational Teacher Training workshops and showcase best practice.
To date, four schools have been completed and these have received international recognition from agencies including the United Nations Children's Fund and the UK's Department for International Development as being some of the best schools in Ghana.
The exhibition will run from 11th August to 29th August 2014 and is open to the public Monday to Friday 9am - 6pm.
