Dervilla Mitchell has been appointed Chair of Arup’s UK Middle East and Africa (UKMEA) Region.
Dervilla joined Arup’s Dublin Office as a civil engineering graduate. After a period working as a structural engineer in the US, she rejoined Arup and has since held senior roles including group and regional board member, director of ethics and UKMEA aviation business leader.
One of the most senior female engineers in the UK, Dervilla has led and delivered technically challenging projects, including Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and Portcullis House in Westminster. Dervilla is currently project director for the construction of the Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal.
Dervilla, the chair of the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, received an honorary CBE in 2014 in recognition of her contribution to engineering.
Dervilla is replacing Alan Belfield, who has become the Chief Operating Officer for Arup Group. Barbara Lane, Isabel Dedring and Jim Johnson have been appointed to the UKMEA board joining Peter Chamley, Jerome Frost, Ian Gardner, Geoff Hunt and Nigel Tonks.
