Sustainability award for Palmas Altas Campus

20 October 2010

The Palmas Altas Campus, Abengoa´s headquarters in Seville, has been awarded first prize for sustainable real estate investment by Union Investment Real Estate, one of the most important real estate asset management companies in Europe.

The Prime Property Award aims to promote sustainable development and give recognition to building projects in Europe that are most committed to these principles.

Designed by architectural teams Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Vidal and Associates, with structural engineering, fire safety services and façade engineering by Arup, the project provides Abengoa Multinational with a new corporate headquarters in Seville. It will be one of the first technologically-complex private business initiatives in Andalucía.

The jury analysed 142 entries from 19 European countries, and highlighted the Palmas Altas Campus for its “integration of renewable energy sources and advanced technologies in a unique building that is an example of energy efficiency”.

This new award adds to those awarded by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in the UK for environmental excellence, and an excellence award from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

The Palmas Altas Campus has been created to recognise sustainable construction and the use of sustainable technologies to reduce power consumption. Construction was completed in 2009, and the campus opened its doors to Abengoa employees and other Andalucian technological companies in 2010.

The project has also achieved platinum pre-certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®). When issued, this will be the first time such certification has been awarded to a Spanish office building.
