Andrew McAlpine

Arup Principal and leader of Arup's Toronto office

Your best solution to date?
Almost the first project I did with Arup was helping to conceive and plan the redevelopment of Toronto Pearson Airport.

Why is it significant?
It was an ambitious vision at an enormous scale and challenging to bring to reality in every way imaginable. The resulting Terminal 1 is a great success and our planning role continues.

Your particular skill?
I’m an architect who transitioned to become an airport planner. I now lead a growing office which is planning and designing an array of large, complex and very visible projects, mostly in the transportation realm.

I’m dedicated to making Arup a substantial and influential presence and a long term success in Canada.

Why Arup?
Arup is a powerful platform to imagine and build the future.

Anything else?
I take great satisfaction in marshalling the creative and collaborative energy of this firm to achieve exceptional design. The results never fail to surprise and impress me. I never quit learning.
