John O’Mahony is a Director at Arup. A chartered structural engineer, John gained experience of working across all design disciplines involved in life science projects early in his career. From inception through to handover including the Commissioning Qualification and Validation (CQV) stages of major life science projects, John plays a lead role.

Since joining Arup as a graduate in 1985, John has had a good balance of design and construction experience on projects in Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. He has completed onsite assignments over extended periods throughout his career, managing field engineering, project controls and construction management, becoming a trusted advisor to our clients.

Clients with whom John has worked are some of the leading global life sciences firms, delivering production facilities, laboratories, logistics, utilities and site infrastructure. In 2010, John worked with a consortium of life science clients in Cork Harbour to secure a planning permit for large scale wind turbines on their sites with the aim of reducing their carbon footprint and increasing their use of energy from renewable sources. The success of this project led to a number of clients exploring the installation of renewable energy solutions at their sites. The latest wind turbine, on a Johnson & Johnson site in Cork, became operational in 2018 with Arup providing all engineering services.
