Can Misses Hospital is a public institution managed by the Health Service of the Balearic Islands on the island of Ibiza. The health service caters for more than 130,000 people in the region.
In 2008 IB-SALUT hired the services of VDC, a joint venture in which Arup has taken part, for the design of a new centre and the redevelopment of existing facilities. Since then, Arup has provided full structural, electrical, mechanical, public health design engineering services and fire consultancy.
The new 250-bed hospital addresses current healthcare demand and creates new spaces to improve patient stays. The hospital has the full range of emergency care facilities from surgery suites, paediatrics, ICU and neonatal, through to radiotherapy and obstetrics departments.
The design of the complex took into account the hospital’s need to incorporate modern technology and to allow for future expansion of inpatient and outpatient services.
