Arup has appointed Tai Chong (TC) Chew as Global Rail Leader to direct the firm’s global rail business. TC will work closely with interim leader, Anna Squire to establish Arup’s rail business as the world leader in the sector.
TC joins Arup from Samsung Construction & Trading Corporation where he was President of Global Business Operations, leading the firm’s transformation to an integrated, trusted Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) company.
TC has more than 40 years’ experience in delivering major railway infrastructure programmes around the world. While at the Land Transport Authority in Singapore, TC delivered Asia’s first fully automated underground heavy metro system, the North East mass rapid transit line. TC was responsible for all new railway projects in Hong Kong during his time at MTR Corporation, including the West Island Line and the fully automated South Island Line. During his time at Bombardier Transportation as Head of Mass Transit in the UK, he was responsible for major projects including the London Underground Victoria Line upgrade.
TC is a Fellow of a number of key institutions including the Royal Academy of Engineering; The Institution of Civil Engineers; the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences and the Hong Kong Institute of Directors.
