Arup senior lighting designer Guillermo Martínez has been ranked among the top ten young engineers and architects in Spain, according to the second edition of the "35 Under 35" list.

Published by the Madrid World Capital of Construction, Engineering and Architecture Association (MWCC) and Global Shapers Madrid, the list celebrates the exceptional work of the most influential built environment designers under 35 years working in the country.

Of the 470 applications received, those selected were chosen by a jury made up of representatives from various professional associations, IE Real State Club, Alicante University, Cesce, Banco Caminos, FCC, MWCC and Global Shapers, and the support of Madrid City Council.

In the course of his career at Arup over the past nine years, Guillermo has acquired a wealth of experience working in multidisciplinary teams on a wide range of international projects in the fields of transport, sports, arts, architecture, urban planning, and retail. His most notable projects include the Mathematics Gallery: The Winton Gallery at the Science Museum in London, the Midfield Terminal Complex in Abu Dhabi, the Paseo de Pereda in Santander or Madrid Nuevo Norte, as well as the Caleido Tower and the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid, among others.
Guillermo understands lighting as an essential factor in architecture and building design and argues that light not only exposes architecture to the senses, but also enhances the human experience by bringing life to the spaces around us.

Being part of this ranking for me is a reward for my efforts to improve my work in each new project and to value our profession with passion and enthusiasm. As a specialist in Arup, a multidisciplinary design company, this recognition would not have been possible without my colleagues, with whom I collaborate daily, so this is undoubtedly also a collective award for teamwork. ” Guillermo Martinez, Arup Guillermo Martinez Lighting Designer
