Exploring the future role of healthcare in Singapore

19 September 2012

Arup’s Australasia healthcare leader, Katie Wood, has visited Singapore to discuss the future role of healthcare facilities in the region with leaders in the sector.

To kickstart the visit, Katie facilitated an Arup hosted leaders’ workshop on healthy communities. The group workshopped real and practical ways in which the health facilities we are all working on today can be shaped to help take us towards a healthier future. Health facilities can be a driver to improve people’s health and wellbeing, improve community life and reduce our demands on the environment – but we have to think wider than just the buildings.

It was a very insightful workshop and I am sure all participants left feeling invigorated and inspired!

Katie was also invited to speak at the inaugural Healthcare Infrastructure, Technology and Engineering Conference 2012 (HI.TEC), organised by the Ministry of Health Holdings, Singapore. Katie’s presentation explored what we mean by value for money in health facilities and who benefits.

Infrastructure has a key part to play in delivering value for money healthcare. Project teams must focus on end value for the health system rather than capital cost alone, and must embed value management into project processes and governance.
