I lead Arup’s Advanced Digital Engineering team in Australasia.
Arup has long been known for a belief in ‘total architecture’ - integrating architecture, master planning, structural and environmental design experts in one team. Digital tools make this faster, more productive and improve quality. My involvement in the Singapore Sports Hub project proved to me the immense value advanced digital tools can create. The Hub’s innovative roof design won it Sports Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival. We were only able to realise this complex design by using digital automation and optimisation tools, a fact recognised by the project also winning IStructE’s global Supreme Award for Engineering Excellence.
Appreciating the nuances between different markets and cultures is vital to understanding where, when and how to integrate digital ways of working. I have built that understanding through work on façade design, buildings and heavy rail infrastructure across Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and the UK. Now based in Melbourne, I lead the integration of the digital skills that exist within our project teams across the region with the specialist software development and data management skills that exist in our specialist ADE team. Together, we explore and create value for clients through developing new work methods and outcomes.
