ACEC awards eleven Arup projects for engineering excellence

The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) honours exceptional achievements in engineering with their annual Engineering Excellence Awards. Beginning at the state level, project submissions are ranked on their unique or innovative approaches, overall complexity, and value-added to clients by a distinguished panel of judges, representing a cross section of industry, government, academia, and media. Each project was recognised at their respective state awards galas. Selected winners from each state were then eligible for ACEC's national competition.

ACEC New York award winners:

  • Second Avenue Subway, submitted by the AECOM-Arup joint venture, received a diamond award in the transportation category as well as the Empire Award – New York State’s best engineering project of the year

  • The Chrysalis at Symphony Woods received a diamond award in the special projects category

  • The New York City Transit Feasibility Study and Design to Increase Pumping Capacity at Eleven (11) Right of Way Tunnel Locations project received a platinum award in the studies, research, and consulting engineering services category

  • The National Music Centre of Canada received a platinum award in the building/technology systems category

  • The New York City Transit Track and Switch Rehabilitation at St. George Terminal received a platinum award in the transportation category

  • The Tippet Rise Art Center received a platinum award in the special projects category

  • The Footfall vibration app received a gold award in the studies, research, and consulting engineering services category

  • The Norris Cut Tunnel in Miami received a gold award in the waste and storm water category

  • Carnegie Mellon University’s Scott Hall received a silver award in the building/technology systems category

Finally, at the national gala in Washington DC on 17 April, Second Avenue Subway received one of sixteen prestigious grand awards and the Northeastern University Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex received an honor award. The Chrysalis at Symphony Woods and the Rainbow Bridge at Seaside Way each received a national recognition award.
