Ulcinj is the southernmost municipality of Montenegro, covering an area of 225km² and with 26,435 citizens. The city is planning to develop the tourist resorts of Velika Plaža, Ada Bojana and Valdanos. These projects will have an important role in the dynamic, continuous economic growth of Montenegro, particularly in the tourism sector.
The development includes integrated, multipurpose large-scale projects, which will be acceptable from an aesthetic and ecological point of view. They will also contain a significant leisure component, with hotels and facilities for relaxation and recreation. Also envisaged are high-quality residential units and commercial buildings.
In order to fulfill this potential plan and protect at the same time, the interests of the local population, the economy and the environment, it is very important for the Spatial and Urban Development Plan to provide a suitable platform to enable this accelerated growth.
For this purpuse, Arup provided spatial planning, road infrastructure, hydro-technical engineering, energy and telecommunication infrastructure, environmental protection, natural heritage protection and the use of SPeAR module.
